“Bakit ko ipapa-cancel?” talent manager Shirley Kuan said, pointing to nearly P700,000 she had spent on airfare and a hotel to attend Bea Alonzo and Vincent Co’s planned wedding in Spain.
Kuan said she was a ninang, had a gown made for the occasion and made arrangements to attend the wedding despite tensions in the Middle East at the time.
“Bakit ko ipapa-cancel? Ninang ako. Nagpagawa ako ng gown. Nag-effort ako. And at that time, kasagsagan ng Middle East war… ayaw kong dumaan ng layover sa Dubai,” Kuan said.
Speaking to select members of the showbiz press, including Abante Entertainment Editor Jun Lalin, Kuan said she avoided a layover in Dubai and instead traveled from Manila to Los Angeles before continuing to Madrid.
“And at that time, the plane fare was so high. Kung ayaw kong matuloy ang kasal, bakit ako gagastos? Plane fare alone and hotel is almost P700,000,” she said.
Kuan said her expenses showed that she wanted the wedding to proceed.
“So, logic tells you, gusto ko ‘yung kasal,” she said.
Reports had surfaced that the planned Spain wedding was canceled after someone from Alonzo’s camp allegedly intervened in the wedding plans.
Alonzo and Co ultimately married in a civil wedding ceremony at Makati City Hall on July 13.
